The category of time in Russian is involved in different cases. It all depends on the situation, on the words of use.
To show the time are used words in the Nominative, Genitive, Accusative and Prepositional cases. Let's consider some variants.
To find out the exact time, you need to ask "Сколько времени?" or better "Который час?" / "What time is it?".
And if you want to find out at what time something happened, you need to ask "Когда?" / "When?" or "В котором часу?" / "At what time?".
So, if you are talking about the exact time, then it is necessary to use the constructions with the words "hour", "minute", "second" and numbers in the Nominative, Genitive or Accusative:
Note that answering the question "Сколько времени?" / "What time is it?" is used Nominative case (with the number "one"), BUT after the numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 ... - Genitive case.
And answering the question "Когда?" / "When?" is used Accusative case (with the number "one") or Genitive case (after the numbers 2, 3, 4 and 5 ... - Genitive case).
To indicate the day of the week:
Note that answering the question "Какой день недели?" / "What day of the week?" is used Nominative case, and answering the question "Когда?" / "When?" - preposition "B" and Accusative case.
To indicate the month:
Note that answering the question "Какой месяц?" / "What month?" is used Nominative case, and answering the question "Когда?" / "When?" - preposition "B" and Prepositional case.
To indicate the season:
Note that answering the question "Какое время года?" / "What time of the year?" is used Nominative case, and answering the question "Когда?" / "When?" - adverbs (!), which are similar to the forms of Instrumental case.
