1. You can ask a question to the pronoun.

→ if this is a personal pronoun, then the questions will be with a preposition у кого? для кого? без кого? от кого? and others. 

→ if it is a possessive pronoun, then questions will be чей? чья? чьё? чьи?

2. You can change 'его', 'её' and 'их' into the pronoun 'меня'. And if you succeed and the meaning of the sentence does not change, then you have a personal pronoun and you need the initial letter H-.

It is important that personal pronouns vary in cases and forms of the 3 persons after the prepositions will have the initial form H-.
